The shop opened in 2012 as an idea and with the use of a credit card. We had no funding, just crossed fingers!
The Phab Shop is a charity shop with a difference. The main aim of the Phab Shop is to provide volunteering opportunities to adults with disabilities, learning difficulties and mental health issues. We provide support, training and guide our volunteers in retail and personal development. We aim to boost confidence and skills to help our volunteers future careers and personal lives. It’s about building confidence and breaking down barriers, proving to the public and themselves that they are fully able to work and can contribute to society in so many amazing ways.
“I love The Phab Shop! I’ve made so many friends”
The Phab Shop also supports Southend Junior Phab and Pholk club. Southend Junior Phab Club is a youth club for children with and without disabilities to come together on equal terms. The club is for children aged 7 to 18 years and based in Leigh on Sea run activities like craft, cooking, games, xbox, pool etc. The club also runs various trips and an adventure weekend away once a year where members get to take part in canoeing, sailing, raft building, archery, team challenges etc.
Pholk club is a follow on club for people aged 18+. They meet every other Wednesday at various places like the cinema, bowling, pubs etc.
Both clubs are completely voluntarily run.
The shop wouldn’t be able to run without the amazing support of our customers and donators. We’ve got brilliant customers and would like to say a huge thank you to all our supporters, they’ve directly made a huge difference in peoples lives and for that we eternally grateful.
